Yesterday, I shot Dorena and Brice’s awesome wedding at the Hyatt Regency in Waikiki. After a 15-hour day, I could not wait to get back to my parents’ house and get some sleep. However, as I maneuvered through the curves of the Pali Highway, my mom called to let me know that Aloha Airlines’ last day of operations will be today. Our flight back to San Diego had been cancelled! A little panic set in. I started to think of all the reasons we need to get back this Thursday. We all miss David. Keilah has to get back to school. Our taxes have yet to be done. I have all these images to edit…
Thankfully, by the time I reached my parents’ home, my mom had already found us another flight through Hawaiian Airlines. Whew! We’ll be back in San Diego later this week, as scheduled. My husband had also researched the proper recourse for getting our money back for the unused portion of our fares. Ah, isn’t this what ohana (family) is all about?
I spent this morning with credit card companies trying to get refunds for our return flight on this and a couple of other trips in the future. You all probably know how it is to be on the phone and being passed on from one person to the next and getting conflicting information. One customer service person told me that because I’d booked this flight in December, I could not dispute the charge since it’s past the 60- day deadline. I did finally get matters resolved, and I’m hopeful that we’ll be getting our accounts credited. Though time-consuming and a bit frustrating , I know these minor inconveniences are nothing compared to the stress 3,500 Aloha Airlines employees, who have to deal with the loss of their jobs, must be feeling. I wish them all the best. I hope they find new jobs quickly.
This blog will be back to regular programming, complete with photos, next week. I’ve shot tons of images from a few portrait sessions and a wedding, and I can’t wait to share them with you.
Aloha!
