Shannon & Bryan’s Engagement Session | Julian

Ah, what can I say about this two? Maybe I should have Kealoha write this post because she’s *completely* in love with Bryan and Shannon. She makes them drawings regularly, and they indulge her stories. They let me play in their softball team (David’s idea, not mine!) even though I can’t even untie my own shoes! ha! We dig their sense of humor, and they love good food so we enjoy hanging out with them. Our family is blessed to have them in our lives.

Bryan and Shannon actually drove to Julian the week before these photos were taken to scout out some places for the shoot. The colors hadn’t quite changed, yet, but by the time we took these photos, the leaves’ colors have turned into these glorious shades!

Of course, I love this out-of-focus one. I’m weird like that.

With a beautiful couple and great light, how could a photographer go wrong!

Jason & Tisha | Hawaii portrait photography

Yesterday, while on the phone with my sister, I mentioned that I was editing Jason and Tisha’s portraits. She said, “Tisha’s so beautiful. But she’s just as goofy as she is beautiful so you can’t hate her for being beautiful!”

Goofy. Probably why we take pictures like this in public places! She brings out the wacky in me, too! And no, we hadn’t had a single sip of margarita before we snapped this shot (and many others like it!) Check out the bottom of the pic, I just noticed the wolf howling at us! haha!

Tisha was our College and Career Pastor at Hope Chapel Kaneohe way back when David and I were younger (you see, we aged but somehow, Tisha didn’t!). She poured many tears, prayers, wisdom, and lots of laughter on us, and we love her so!

So, we’re so happy to see her with someone who looks at her this way.

Jason is a Pastor, too.

Ah, I love laughing pictures! They’re both hilarious! I think we scared some tourists with our laughs! Sorry, tourists! (Oy, I just realized I was a tourist, too! )

These two must watch America’s Next Top Model because they sure knew how to work the camera!

This next one may be my favorite. It captures a softer, quiet side of her.

Anthony & Cathy Engagement Session – UC Berkeley

Do I really need a commentary before posting pictures? Can’t I just be like Kimi and say, “here they are. look!” She says nobody reads the text, anyway!

And since Scott thought Anthony looked so serious in the sneak peek picture, here’s proof he doesn’t have to wait until he gets married to smile.

There’s a whole series of these arm-wrestling ones that I love…

Whew! Sizzling!

It was so hot that day that poor Anthony had to keep wiping his brows. Considerate photographer that I am kept asking them to go into these various shafts of light where it was even hotter! Nice!

Because I can’t seem to do a whole shoot without reflections or shadows…

Moving on to the Oakland Trolley Station. There was no trolley so we shot inside…

They love shoes…

I really did have fun at this shoot. I mean, we were at Anthony’s alma mater, UC Berkeley, for crying out loud! I got stopped two different times. One man wanted to know how much my gear cost. Another dude wanted me to take his picture and print it right then and there:). A walking photo booth, I must have looked like!

Thanks Cathy and Anthony for enduring the heat and going along with all my suggestions! See you in September!

Engagement Session Sneak Peek

This past Saturday, I spent the afternoon with Cathy and Anthony in the Bay Area - shooting their engagement session. I have a boatload of images I can’t wait to share with you but I can’t edit fast enough…

Have I mentioned, lately, how much I love my job? I love being a photographer. I get to take pictures of cool people in cool places. They let me seat them in uncomfortable places, make them walk all over creation in high heels and high heat…and they don’t get annoyed (or at least, they don’t show it!) with the constant clicking of the camera like my kids and friends do!

Portraits: Jen & Monty (continued)

Jen & Monty are our dear friends. When Jen & I get together, we never seem to stop laughing. Our husbands look at us as if we’ve lost our minds. We’re walking and canasta partners (!). We sometimes joke that we’re senior citizens in thirty-somethings bodies!

Monty is a sound designer for Sony. You might see his name in the credits of some Playstation games.

I don’t know why they hang out with me and David when they’re this cool…:)

I love this one (I rarely say that about my own work…). I’ve been loving out-of-focus photos, lately…I know, I’m weird!

These were all photographed in good ol’ El Cajon! It goes to show that there are cool places in our ghetto town, after all…No? Ok, maybe it just proves that good light is better than great backgrounds! ETA: Actually, I think even more important is the connection between the couple and how transparent they are willing to be in front of the camera.
