Inspired by Rain of the Ohana, I’ve been letting my girls play with my old 20d and 50mm f1.8 lens. I taught Keilah to choose a subject, walk up to it, look in the viewfinder, and make sure the arrow lines up with the middle line to get proper exposure. She gets it, sometimes. And if her subject is very light or very dark, she’s in trouble. But it’s a start, right? With Kealoha, the camera is kept on the “green box mode”. They both really enjoy taking pictures, often fighting over the camera. Keilah’s photos are mostly of her friends. Since I don’t have model release forms for them, they won’t be posted online.
Here are some Kealoha has taken. It seems she’s a fan of super close-ups.
I asked her why she likes this one and she said, “Because it’s daddy, and I like the lighting and the textures!” lol. She’s parroting her mother!
Her doggy, Charlie. She has lots and lots of him, including close-ups of his tail and all his little spots. It’s so cool to see what interests kids when handed a camera.
