Our top ten eating places on Oahu…

When we go to Hawaii, it seems all we do is eat. So many places, so little time:)! I thought I’d share of our favorite places for local “grinds” so if you ever find yourself in Hawaii, you can check these places out…

1. Roy’s. For fine dining. Your tastebuds will thank you! There are actually lots of good fine dining places in Honolulu but we like that Roy’s is not in crowded Waikiki or Ala Moana.

2. Boot’s and Kimo’s. The home of the original, frothy macadamia nut pancake sauce. Soooo goood! It’s a hole-in-the wall breakfast place in Kailua. Get there early then hit Kailua or Lanikai beach!

3. Waiola’s Shaved Ice. I know people love Matsumoto’s on the North Shore. But Waiola’s has finer ice, more flavors, more toppings! And if you’re staying in Waikiki, it’s just minutes away.

4. Big Kahuna’s. If you like pizza, don’t head to Pizza Hut. This little place near the airport offers so much variety, including pizza with kalua pork. My favorite is their cheese balls: dough balls slathered with butter, garlic and topped with cheese. Yum! Speaking of pizza, did you know that in Hawaii, pizza with pineapple toppings is called California-style pizza, while the rest of the world calls it Hawaiian pizza?

5 . Kin Wah. Our favorite Chinese food restaurant in the windward side. Try their minute chicken with cake noodles or one of their sizzling platters.

6. Zippy’s. For chili and crispy fried chicken. They’re located all over the island and they’re open 24 hours to satisfy your midnight cravings….

7. Yama’s Fish Market. It’s on Young Street, a hidden gem. They offer fresh, generous servings of Hawaiian food, like lau lau or haupia.

8. Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck. A white, graffiti-covered shrimp truck on the side of the road in Kahuku. Never won awards for decor but sure get lots of raves from customers!

9. Ted’s Bakery. Home of the original chocolate haupia cream pie. They serve plate lunches, too.

10. Rainbow’s Drive-In for local style plate lunches and slush floats. Yum!

I could list lots more but this is TEN on Thursday, not twenty or thirty;)

P.S. A slideshow of the wedding dress shoot with my sister will be uploaded soon. Stay tuned! :)

Have a great Thursday!

We love love love Roy’s and discovered it in Honolulu on our honeymooon. We were so excited to discover one down here in La Jolla. It’s an anniversary dinner for us :)
