For Father’s Day, my smart little brothers pitched in to buy a Wii console and a few games for our dad. Never mind that our dear Papa never has, and probably never will, played a video game in his life.
The game is not wasted, however. On my last trip back “home,” I was lured into playing Mario Kart with my brother, Jay. Seeing how badly I was doing, my sister, who once asked me to go to a dance class with her to ensure she would not be the worst in the room, challenged me to some races. “Oh, I should play you! I’m horrible at driving games,” she said.
Riding Baby Princess’s stroller and Donkey Kong’s Kart, we vied for 11th place…of 12! Sadly, my sister “won” two out of 3 races! The only other game where I placed 11th was with Micah. Well, only if having a not-yet-two-year-old push random buttons on a controller counts as playing!
The next day, our brother’s friends came over, and we offered to let them play our dear ol’ dad’s game.
They politely refused. My sister, wanting to be hospitable asked: “You want to watch us play Mario Kart instead?”
“Chiqui, do you not want Kane to have friends or something?,” I asked incredulously.
“Well, we are entertaining!,” was her reply.
Yeah, I suppose we might be amusing. That is, if you like watching two girls contort their bodies, arms, and wrists instead of efficiently moving the joystick with their fingers.
So what’s the point of this post? Nothing, really. Just a distraction from the fact that I haven’t finished proofing the photos I took in Hawaii. And maybe to point out that my kids are not the only goofy ones in my family. My sister is, too!
