But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:33
This was Keilah’s memory verse for Sunday school a couple of weeks ago, and during family prayer one night, we decided we’ll adopt it as our scripture for the year. We talked a bit about what it means to seek God first: to pray, to read the Bible, to ask Him for direction in what we do, etc.
Well, Kealoha has apparently taken the verse to heart. First, let me tell you that this girl prays. She prays for parking spaces. And remembers to say thank you when we find one. She prays when Keilah is pushing her buttons: “Dear Jesus, help Keilah to be nice to me.” She doesn’t let us go to sleep unless we pray as a family. So, really, I shouldn’t have been surprised when this happened…
A few days ago, I asked the girls to clean their room. They each have separate tasks so it’s clear who finished her work….Kealoha was having a hard time hanging up her jackets so she started whining. I told her that if she needs help, she needs to ask, because she won’t accomplish anything by crying.
A few moments later, I hear her praying, “Dear Jesus, please have someone help me!”
So I repeat, “Bammy, if you need help, you need to ask.”
She says, : “I did!”
Then in a louder voice, “Dear Jesus! Pleaaase have someone help me!”
There you go. A three-year-old’s interpretation of seeking God first!:)
